As a dishwasher I put hot water into the basin and then saturate my sponge with the soap nut solution, squeezing it to get a foam going. You will use more than a regular concentrated detergent but the advantage is of course that it is free from harsh chemicals.
I then wet each dish and wash it with the sponge and then rinse it off in the water You must rinse off as the soap nuts have an unpleasant residue.
I have found I can clean all my dishes well even those with oil on them.
Keep in mind that I don't cook meat or any type of cooking that would leave that type of residue so I have no idea how it would work with that type of cleaning.
When using soap nuts as a handwash I put the solution into an old soap pump. To use just put 1-2 pumps of solution on your hands, rub them together for a few seconds and then rinse.
I love using soap nuts and now find the smell of the regular detergents offensive.
